The CSB was created using optimal equivalence, a translation philosophy that pursues both linguistic precision to the original languages and readability in contemporary English. The goal of the translation committee of the Christian Standard Bible was for the modern reader to hear the Word of God in their "mother tongue," just as the original audience would have. Rather than taking each word and finding the most accurate English equivalent, they attempted to translate the Bible on a "meaning-for-meaning" basis.
